Getting an Early Start

How early is too early?

When doing a school project that is worth 50 percent of your grade, if you start it early you have time to edit, revise, and submit it before it’s due. This will only help you get a good grade. Start it too late, well you’re looking at an all-nighter, poor work, and the possibility of turning it in late (if your professor even lets you). Just like homework, there is a perfect time to start an education. One can never start learning too early but can be doomed by learning too late.

In fact, children are learning something new every day since they day they are born. They are learning about the world around them; picking up new sounds, visions, feelings, and smells. So it would only make sense to keep the learning process going.

The Great Start Readiness Program is created to keep the learning going for children who aren’t in kindergarten, yet. This program is an early child education program where children go to school to prepare them for kindergarten. Giving them all the foundation skills they would need for the next level of education. It is preparation. Just like every other grade, so it makes sense. Governor Snyder is looking to add an additional $65 million to the already $65 million program. This would allow for enrollment of an additional 16,000 4-year old to the current 48,075 preschoolers. This expansion would be HUGE.

The reasoning behind this proposal is to make Michigan a “no-wait” state. Meaning, children do not have to wait for an education. The education is there and ready for the youngsters.

Schools are taking to this program nicely. They are a hit amongst administrators and parents. Schools in the Detroit Public School and Madison Public Schools have already had such positive feedback from this program that they are looking to add more classrooms to their schools. Child Center owner Lisa Alawie, states, ”I’ve already had to open up an extra classroom for those on a waiting list, and parents still are coming in to ask about the classes”.

Governor Snyder is doing a great job at keeping out schools a top most priority. Education is the key to success and I’m not just saying that because I plan on being a teacher. Everything we do comes from the knowledge we have; the knowledge we received as children. If we can start our children off with a strong foundation they will continue to grow with more knowledge we would have ever believed possible. Every child would benefit from an early start on education.

The bottom line is that it is never too early to start educating our children, especially if we want them to succeed. We would only be hindering our children’s abilities by keeping them away from the knowledge that they deserve.
